Shadow board

Inclusion@Lloyd’s are passionate about building a more diverse and inclusive market. Since 2015 Inclusion@Lloyd’s has influenced the changing profile of the Lloyd’s market through engaging leaders in the inclusion journey, establishing market wide network groups and through the widely celebrated Dive In festival.

The Inclusion@Lloyd’s Main Board comprises of senior executives committed to making a change. The Main Board have recognised the need for a Shadow Board to leverage the success of the approach to date and to encourage more diverse talent to play an active and critical role in the next steps of the journey.

Purpose

The members of the Shadow Board are responsible for challenging and influencing the Main Board in order to support and inform inclusive decision-making processes. The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Generate innovative approaches to advancing diversity and inclusion across the Lloyd’s market and beyond
  • Bring diversity of experience and thought to Inclusion@Lloyd’s to effectively represent diverse talent across the market
  • Pro-actively seek and listen to feedback from colleagues and stakeholders to inform the Inclusion@Lloyd’s agenda and actions
  • Play an active role in influencing and implementing the future plans of Inclusion@Lloyd’s
  • Be a champion of diversity and inclusion in their own organisation and an advocate for the market
  • In addition, the role of Chair and Co-Chair will in addition be responsible for leading and chairing the Shadow Board.

Appointment

Members of the Shadow Board were appointed through an open selection process.

Reporting 

The Shadow Board are accountable to the Inclusion at Lloyd’s Main Board for properly performing its functions.

Jaya Handa

Privacy Director, Liberty Specialty Markets

Jaya is the Privacy Director at Liberty Specialty Markets. She is a Consultative Expert on Digital Ethics in Insurance at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions authority, has consulted with the European Commission on Artificial Intelligence and chairs the LMA Data Protection Forum. She passionate about D&I having set up various initiatives across the legal and insurance markets; she is also a Trustee of the Change Foundation, appointed to the Black Solicitors Network City Group Committee and Chairs the Inclusion @ Lloyds shadow board.

Jaya Handa

Jaya is the Privacy Director at Liberty Specialty Markets. Brittany Boykin

In-House Counsel Head of Claims & Underwriting, Brit Insurance

Brittany is In-House Counsel – Head of Claims and Underwriting for Brit Insurance. She joined Brit after practicing law in the US for several years. She is currently a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and has served as a delegate for the South Carolina Bar Association. She is a member of the Black Action Initiatives Committee established by Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd, and works closely with several employee resource groups within Brit and the London market.

Brittany Boykin

In-House Counsel Head of Claims & Underwriting, Brit Insurance

Brittany is In-House Counsel – Head of Claims and Underwriting for Brit Insurance. She joined Brit after practicing law in the US for several years. She is currently a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and has served as a delegate for the South Carolina Bar Association. Pelumi Ojo

Executive Support Manager, Aon

Pelumi joined Aon in 2014 and currently works as a Business Analyst with the UK Change Team. Outside of her day to day role, she co-chairs Aon’s Multicultural Network and, with this role, aims to Champion BAME representation and inclusion by engaging with business leaders and advocating for targeted initiatives that address the unique challenges facing ethnic minority representation. In 2019, she was recognised by the Chartered Insurance Institute as a Multicultural Role Model in the Insurance Industry and 2020 as a WeAretheCity Rising Star in Insurance.

Graduate Underwriter, Chaucer Syndicates

A current Chaucer Group Underwriting Graduate who has nearly completed his first year in the London market whilst learning and working remotely. Graduating from Newcastle University in 2018 with a BA in Politics, he then lived in Seville, Spain during 2019. Previous experience consists of time spent at Aviva within the Renewables and Cyber teams and Convex, where he completed a summer internship within the property team.

Louis Van der Lande

Graduate Underwriter, Chaucer Syndicates

A current Chaucer Group Underwriting Graduate who has nearly completed his first year in the London market whilst learning and working remotely. Ngozi Emeagi

Senior Consultant, Powerscourt

Prior to joining Powerscourt, Ngozi Emeagi was global media and PR lead at MS Amlin. She has previously held roles at Direct Line, FleishmanHillard and Tulchan, covering a variety of sectors including banks and property. Ngozi started her career on the government bonds team at Goldman Sachs. Throughout her career Ngozi has been dedicated to improving the diversity within the organisations she has worked and as well as her role on the inclusion at Lloyd’s shadow board she also sits on the committee of Women in PR.

Innovation Associate, Lloyd's

Femi Williams is an innovation associate and on the shadow board for Lloyd’s inclusion. Femi is responsible for supporting Lloyd’s Lab and the innovation strategy, having worked with dozens of insurtechs over her career relating to IOT, robotics, climate change, and parametrics. Tom holds a MSc in International Relations and Global Issues from the University of Nottingham.

Innovation Associate, Lloyd's

Femi Williams is an innovation associate and on the shadow board for Lloyd’s inclusion. Femi is responsible for supporting Lloyd’s Lab and the innovation strategy, having worked with dozens of insurtechs over her career relating to IOT, robotics, climate change, and parametrics. Tom holds a MSc in International Relations and Global Issues from the University of Nottingham.

Project Manager, Ascot Group

Nelly is an experienced Operations Management and Project Management Professional (PMP) with 14 years’ experience in the London Market Insurance Industry. Nelly enjoys working in the London Market and believes that the market has a lot to offer. Nelly is excited to see advances in diversity and inclusion within the London Market.

Ajay is Head of Digital Sales and Marketing for the Clear Insurance Group, an independent broker with offices across the country that also leads an independent broker network called Brokerbility. He has previously worked at Aviva, Aon and BHIB Insurance Brokers over the last 10 years, predominantly in sales and marketing roles. Ajay is also the co-founder and co-chair of iCAN (the Insurance Cultural Awareness Network) – a cross-industry network focusing on supporting promoting multicultural and international talent across the Insurance sector. Ajay joined the Inclusion@Lloyds Shadow Board in 2021.

Ajay is Head of Digital Sales and Marketing for the Clear Insurance Group, an independent broker with offices across the country that also leads an independent broker network called Brokerbility. He has previously worked at Aviva, Aon and BHIB Insurance Brokers over the last 10 years, predominantly in sales and marketing roles. Ajay is also the co-founder and co-chair of iCAN (the Insurance Cultural Awareness Network) – a cross-industry network focusing on supporting promoting multicultural and international talent across the Insurance sector. Ajay joined the Inclusion@Lloyds Shadow Board in 2021.

Sunneth Lawrence

Capital Advisory, Aon

Sunneth is an Analyst within Aon’s Capital Advisory practice. She started her career two years ago, joining Aon on their graduate program, having previously studied Biochemistry at the University of Warwick. Sunneth has spent time working both in reinsurance and direct insurance, previously working in Aon’s retro and cyber teams. 

She is passionate about social mobility, mental wellbeing, and the intersectionality of race, gender, and class.  Her hopes are that Inclusion@Lloyd’s will build a market where anyone from any background can feel comfortable, accepted, and succeed.

Capital Advisory, Aon

Sunneth is an Analyst within Aon’s Capital Advisory practice. She is currently a volunteer at the London & International Insurance Brokers Association (LIIBA), The Brokerage and is member of Miller's Cultural Alliance Committee. Prior to insurance she has held varied roles within Financial Services, Real Estate and Technology where she also championed Diversity and Inclusion initiatives. In 2021 she was nominated for the Women in Insurance Rising Star Award and is passionate about driving forward a positive change in the industry.

Monica Stancu

Diversity and Inclusion Manager, Lloyd's

Monica Stancu is the Diversity and Inclusion manager at Lloyd’s. Previously, she has worked in diversity and inclusion at the Royal Academy of Engineering, Sodexo and F. Hoffman La Roche.

Monica has been selected as a Global Champion for Women’s Economic Empowerment by UN Women and has won a WeAreTheCity 2020 Rising Stars award. She is also a One Young World Ambassador and a mentor at Migrant Leaders.
