How did you hear about the Lloyd’s Military Network?

Through a referral from the RFEA and the CTP website after which I attended a LMN Insight Day.

What has been your experience of the LMN Placement Programme? How do you feel it has helped with your transition into the insurance industry?

Having been accepted onto the Autumn iteration, of the two offers I received I accepted a two-month contracted role as a Project Manager, tasked with the Global implementation of Salesforce across Lockton Re-insurance and the vetting and selection of new invoicing platform vendors.

This experience meant fast paced learning, having to understand what the business, clients and vendors required meant quickly gasping what business as usual was. This meant constant contact with many stakeholders, getting first hand insight of what they do on a daily basis. During this time, I was able to build a strong network and precisely identify where in the industry my particular skills will best suited.

Please describe your new role and what specific skills you feel you have developed within your military career that will assist you in this position?

As a Bid Manager at Marsh my role is to help colleagues win more opportunities by delivering creative solutions through team-based problem solving, fostering collaboration and creative thinking between client teams and specialist resources. Below is a list of skills/attributed I have developed over my military career that has and will continue to assist me in not just this role but my future career:

• The ability to think outside the box with a winning mentality.

• Well organised and efficient with strong problem-solving capabilities

• An effective, motivated team member with strong attention to detail.

• Flexibility and the ability to work well under pressure

• Precise and accurate reporting with strong oral and written communication skills.

What advice would you give service leavers looking to pursue a career within the insurance industry?

The brief time I’ve spent in the insurance industry has almost felt like coming home. The collegial atmosphere is reminiscent of my career in the naval service because of the unwavering support provided by the LMN. I believe that one should have an open mind when it comes to pursuing any career and insurance is no different.
