What has been your experience of the LMN Placement Programme? How do you feel it has helped with your transition into the insurance industry?

I was fortunate enough that on my first iteration on the placement scheme I was offered a job in the same team after a few weeks. I took the job - It was a pretty quick transition!

Please describe your new role and what specific skills you feel you have developed within your military career that assist you in this position?

Supplier & Contract Manager.

The main skills that I developed within the military which have supported me in my current position are:

Diligence – the skill to scrutinise contracts.

The ability to have difficult conversations especially if you are terminating supplier contracts/agreements.

Time management – being able to juggle numerous important tasks throughout the day and not let one slip by the side.

The determination to get the job done and see a project through to the end.

What is the best bit about your job in the insurance industry and how does that compare to the military?

I really enjoy working with people and building relationships. A huge part of my current role requires me to manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you moving from the military to insurance?

I think the biggest challenge for me was to develop more patience. In the military, everything happened very fast and there was always a sense of urgency in the air. In my civilian job, things are done at a slightly slower pace.

What is the biggest lesson you've learnt in your time in the insurance industry?

Building relationships is hugely important. If you respect others the way you respect yourself, you’ll go a long way.
