Mentoring

Why mentoring?

Provide high impact support by offering longer term volunteering via a mentoring programme.

Mentoring is a powerful personal development tool that will enable young people to maximise their potential and develop their employability skills. Research shows that quality mentoring can have a powerful effect on young people's personal, academic and career opportunities.

Our mentoring programmes

At Lloyd’s there are two programmes which run for mentoring:

Mentor students during their internships in the Lloyd’s market

Aim of programme: To develop the professional skills of undergraduates who are undertaking work placements in the Lloyd’s market over the summer, or who have been unsuccessful in their applications for placements in the Lloyd’s market. This is achieved by working one to one with a young person, through a series of structured mentoring meetings. The students will be motivated, bright and eager to learn, but don’t necessarily have the professional contacts and networks to help them to access opportunities and develop key skills to get ahead in their career.

When: July-Aug

Details: The scheme runs for a minimum of three months with at least 5 mentoring sessions taking place at a flexible time that suits you, delivered remotely or in person. Training and materials are provided for each session.

Mentor year 12 students as they make key decisions about their future

Aim of programme: Your role as a mentor is to share your professional, knowledge, experience, and skills to support the development of your mentee. You will support mentees to develop key skills, increase their self-confidence and feel more ambitious about their future career/study options.

When: November to April

Details: Two, one-hour monthly face-to-face sessions from November to April. Sessions will take place at your office after school (from 3.30pm onwards)
