Applications for Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards 2023 are now open!

29 Aug 2023

Do you support a charity who would benefit from further funding? Has a charity supported you through hard times? Applications for the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards are now open!

Every year, the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards celebrate people in the Lloyd’s Market and Corporation who have gone above and beyond for their chosen charity. Funded by the Lloyd’s of London Foundation, the awards recognise the individual effort of these people, making a donation of up to £20,000 to their charity.

Over the years, the awards have supported around 400 charities and donated a total of two million pounds. Our winners have supported everything from educational charities and poverty relief to life saving medical research.

Applications are received from individuals who support a wide range of charitable causes however, it’s less about what the charity does that matters and more about how the individual has supported them or has been supported. Whether you’ve run, swam or cycled your way to raising money or volunteered your valuable time and skills, you could be in with a chance of winning.

Nominations can also be submitted, so if you know someone deserving of an award, please complete an application on their behalf.

Last year we had 8 winners from across the Market from the likes of Aon, MS Amlin, Chubb and of course Lloyd’s. Our winners have volunteered their time and contributed to their charity in different ways, from using their professional expertise and experience to advice on the Board of Trustees or working on the ground with beneficiaries.

Lais Tierno from the Financial Crime and Compliance team won an award for Under One Sky, a charity which provides support to people affected by street homelessness.

Lais began her involvement with the charity in 2021 after a friend who was already volunteering asked if she could fill in for her. She fell in love with the cause, and since then she has volunteered with the charity as an ‘on the ground’ volunteer, working tirelessly around London to provide lifesaving provisions for those living on the streets, understanding their needs and offering further support. Without volunteers such as Lais, this kind of support wouldn’t be possible.

“To me the impact was immense. It made me understand that all of us can do a little bit to make a change in the world we live in and to help someone in need. It doesn't require money necessarily. For instance, I contribute with time. It also gave me the chance of meeting likeminded people who I now call friends. For the charity the impact of having new volunteers is huge. If they don't have sufficient people the ""walks"" have to be cancelled, impacting many lives who rely on them to have simple things such as food and a warm drink.”

Rebecca McGowan, Aon, won an award for volunteering as a trustee for Working Families. Working Families is the UK's national charity for working parents and carers. The donation from the Lloyd’s of London Foundation has helped Working Families increase their specialist benefits advice provision and introduce a new outcomes survey to help the charity deepen their understanding of how their services impact people’s lives.

“Our Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards 2022 grant arrived at a key time for Working Families, as we found ourselves supporting a growing proportion of low-income working parents and carers to navigate the cost-of-living crisis.”
