  • Dr David Crepaz-Keay will cover an introduction to the theme of loneliness, research in this area, the effect of loneliness on mental health, the impact that the pandemic has had and how to identify that you or someone you know is experiencing loneliness and what you can do.

Speaker bios

Dr David Crepaz-Keay is the Head of Applied Learning at the Mental Health Foundation and has worked in the mental health sector for over 30 years. David has lived experience of using mental health services and is passionate about using this experience to improve outcomes for people experiencing mental ill health. During his career to date, David has developed national service user networks in England, Scotland and Wales, been a chief executive of a national charity, a non-executive director, and vice-chair of a national independent, non-departmental public body.

Paul Scharakowski is the Project Manager for Picture This, a creative 12-week programme for older adults which aims to tackle digital exclusion and reduce loneliness. He has worked in later life adult charities for over five years and spent 8 years working on university wellbeing projects for staff and students at Queen’s University Belfast and King’s College London. Paul specialises in adult wellbeing and is currently completing a master’s in public health at King’s College London.

Ruth Simmonds is the Project Manager for the Peer Education Project and other school-based developments at the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). Since joining the Foundation in 2017, Ruth has been involved in many projects and campaigns across the Foundation, including leading on a learning disability hate crime report and co-creating with schools new resources for Mental Health Awareness Week and other campaigns. Ruth is currently completing a master’s in creative health at University College London.
