Winners: Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards 2020

Lloyd’s Charities Trust is proud to announce the 2020 winners of the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards.

In March, in response to the spread of COVID-19 globally, we agreed a £15m response to supporting charities across the world to respond to the impact of the pandemic. £1m of this was donated to Lloyd’s Charities Trust to support their annual Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards for 2020 and 2021. This resulted in Lloyd’s Charities Trust being able to increase their individual donations from £4,000 to £25,000 per charity – with 30 charities being awarded donations this year. These charities were nominated on behalf of individuals in the market in recognition of their fundraising and voluntary work, as well as the invaluable support they have offered to those whose lives have been affected by COVID-19. Trustees plan to be able to make similar sized donations next year. The Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards highlights the work of individuals in the market who go above and beyond their day jobs and it is inspiring to read through the applications. We were delighted to be able to provide additional funding to charities this year as they face some of their toughest challenges.
“I'm really incredibly appreciative that Lloyd’s Charities Trust trustees saw the value of the Chance UK and have invested in their work. I know it will have been an immensely difficult task going through all the charities submitted, all of which do incredible work in their respective ways, which is why I'm even more appreciative that Chance UK has benefitted from the generosity of Lloyd's. I contacted my programme manager immediately after finding out of my success and they were likewise thrilled by the surprise! The timing was also serendipitous because I had my mentoring Graduation with my child later that evening, closing our year of mentoring.”
Maria Mathews won an award on behalf of Chance UK, a charity that she has supported by mentoring a young person facing personal difficulties.
