Overview

Sotera is a Contents risk modelling and underwriting intelligence platform for insurers, MGAs, and brokers.

The company brings the same modelling rigor to Contents that catastrophe models brought to property insurance. Sotera analyses risk at the level of individual objects within a collection, assessing factors such as value, material composition, fragility, theft susceptibility, rarity, and loss behaviour. This object-level analysis is aggregated into policy-level and portfolio-level insight that insurers can use to improve underwriting, pricing, risk selection, and portfolio management.

Sotera enables Fine Art & Specie, High Net Worth and Home Contents insurers to move beyond manual assessment and market benchmarking towards a proprietary, data-driven view of Contents risk. The platform supports advanced modelling of burglary, fire, escape of water, accidental damage, and collection-level concentration risk while providing portfolio analytics and underwriting intelligence across entire books of business.

Sotera is building the modelling infrastructure layer for Contents risk; helping insurers, MGAs, and delegated underwriting businesses make more informed underwriting decisions, improve pricing sophistication, and scale efficiently.

Lab activity

Primary way aimed to improve insurance processes and tools whilst in the Accelerator: New Sources of Risk Insight – Data & Risk Models.

Following participation in Lloyd's Lab Cohort 7, Sotera secured investment from Lloyd's of London, Tokio Marine Future Fund, StoryHouse VC, Accel, and a number of experienced industry angels, and has continued to develop its proprietary Contents risk modelling platform with leading insurers and underwriters.

Today, Sotera provides object-level risk analysis, portfolio analytics, and underwriting intelligence for Fine Art & Specie, High Net Worth and Contents insurance, helping insurers improve risk selection, pricing accuracy, and portfolio visibility. The company has developed advanced modelling capabilities across theft, fire, accidental damage, and collection risk, and is working with market participants to establish a new standard for Contents risk assessment.
