Mark Sedwill, Lord Sedwill KCMG FRGS, joined the Council as Senior Independent Deputy Chairman in December 2021. He was formerly Cabinet Secretary, National Security Adviser and Head of the UK Civil Service. He has a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience, having led or helped shape policy-making approaches in areas such as ESG, energy transition, cyber security and digital transformation.

Lord Sedwill is Chairman of the Atlantic Futures Forum and a cross-bench member of the House of Lords. He recently chaired a G7 Panel on Global Economic Resilience. He is a non-executive director of Rothschild & Co, President of the Special Forces Club, a member of the IISS Advisory Council and the RNLI Council, an Honorary Colonel in the Royal Marines and an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple. He is also the recipient of several awards and honours for national and international public service.
