Our Sleep Out for CentrePoint experience

The Sleep Out campaign challenges people to give up their bed for just one night and swap them for sleeping bags to experience what it is like for people who go through this every day

CentrePoint are a Lloyd’s charity partner and are the UK’s leading homelessness charity supporting young people with health support, life skills in order to get back into education, training and employment and also accommodation. They aim to end youth homelessness by 2037.

The Sleep Out campaign challenges people to give up their bed for just one night and swap them for sleeping bags to experience what it is like for people who go through this every day.

On Thursday 17th November, our wonderful colleagues Anna, Sarah, Jessica, Alanah, Brett, Helen and Chantelle at Lloyd’s took part in CentrePoint’s Sleep Out at the Oval Cricket Ground. They were able to hear more about CentrePoint’s work, meet likeminded people and raise money to help make a difference.

£7,500

raised for CentrePoint

Well done to our fantastic team for taking part in a great cause, who fundraised almost £7,500. Hear more about their experience below.

“It was one of the most eye-opening experiences I have ever experienced. Listening to the stories and experiences of the young people who have been supported by CentrePoint talking so eloquently about how their lives have been turned around was incredible and very moving, as well as putting into perspective what in life is important. This was followed by the worst night sleep of my life, on the floor of the concourse of the Oval. I have never been more grateful to get home to my comfy bed and have a hot shower!”

“Experiencing and comprehending only just a brief moment that many deal with each night, was an extremely overwhelming experience and has never made me so grateful to have my home, a hot shower and a support network around me.”
Anna McRae - Business Team Leader, Lloyd’s
“The event was very educational, and it really made me appreciate how quickly someone young can end up homeless and at the mercy of a system that is not in their favour. Listening to recorded calls from young people who unexpectedly end up homeless was heart-breaking. Spending one night on the floor constantly being kept awake by the noises of life in the city leaves you so tired the next day. It was one night for me, yet how does someone young and vulnerable do this and then have to be alert for their job/school or applying for jobs?”
