In Mauritius, Lloyd’s underwriters can accept risks and issue policies via a Lloyd’s Broker through their local retail correspondent broker or a local Mauritius coverholder.

Lloyd’s Broker

Although there are currently no Lloyd’s brokers in Mauritius, a considerable amount of local business gets placed at Lloyd’s by local retail brokers who access Lloyd’s through Lloyd’s Brokers situated in London or elsewhere, as reinsurance or sometimes directly.

Mauritius Coverholders

A Lloyd’s Coverholder is a company or partnership authorised to enter into a contract of insurance on behalf of a Lloyd’s Syndicate in accordance with the terms of a binding authority agreed between them. At present there are three such coverholders based in Mauritius.
