Tomorrow is Armed Forces Day

#Salutetheforces to support serving and ex-serving personnel and their families

Friday 25 June 2021

Saturday 26 June marks Armed Forces Day across the UK, showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans, and cadets.

Over the last 200 years, Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has been uniting the Lloyd’s market to support veterans and their families to aid the transition to civilian life for those who need it the most.

Thanks to donations from the Council of Lloyd’s and from all our company partners across the market, we are able to work with two charity partners, Combat Stress and RFEA The Forces Employment Charity to address the mental health and employment needs of veterans and their families.

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity

Providing Families Employment Advisors to support spouses and partners into employment. The programme aims to help people like Dylanie build confidence, develop their strength and help apply for jobs in today’s tough job market.

Watch our short film and hear from Victoria who has benefited from the programme.

Combat Stress

Improving the way veterans can manage complex mental health needs through their senses. We are funding pioneering research into the use of sensory modulation to help embed this strategy into therapy treatments. Hear Julian’s story of how this technique helped him.

Find out about what sensory modulation is in our animated video:

We have a range of ways that you can support these partnerships from delivering training in your area of expertise, volunteering to support employability programmes or access a range of resources from Combat Stress around managing your mental health.

Announcing our new small grants partners

In line with our strategic aims of building employability skills and improving mental health and wellbeing, we are delighted to announce the following charities will receive small grants from the Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund:

  • Supporting Wounded Veterans - to fund their mentoring and employment programme
  • Building Heroes Education Foundation -  to expand their employment pathways into construction programme
  • Ripple Pond - to support unpaid carers from the military community
  • HighGround - towards their Horticulture Therapy programme for veterans seeking employment
  • Felix Fund – to deliver online preventative stress training to veterans, their partners and children.

Lloyd’s  has also been supporting Blesma, the limbless veterans’ charity, who provide practical, emotional and financial assistance to injured veterans and their families. Read more in our blog here.

We also have an active Lloyd’s Military Network that operates across the Lloyd’s market which offers work placements and insight days into insurance for veterans.

Thank you

A huge thank you to all the Lloyd’s market companies for your donations to LPF - your support allows us to help people like Dylanie and Julian.
