How to place a risk with Lloyd's in France

Lloyd’s underwriters can only accept risks and issue policies via insurance brokers. Brokers can place business with Lloyd’s in a variety of ways.

Lloyd’s registered brokers bring risks to the underwriters in the Lloyd's market on behalf of clients. These brokers are registered by Lloyd’s and use their specialist knowledge to locate the best underwriters and negotiate competitive terms and conditions on behalf of their clients. In 2017, there are five registered brokers in France working at Lloyd's, many of whom specialise in particular risk classes.

In France, Lloyd’s has a network of syndicate service companies with specialist local underwriters. A syndicate service company is generally a wholly owned subsidiary of a Lloyd’s managing agent. They can be directly accessed by all licensed French brokers.

In France there are currently seven syndicate service companies:

  • Beazley Solutions
  • Hiscox, Liberty Syndicates
  • Navigators
  • QBE Insurance
  • Starstone
  • Tokio Marine Kiln Europe

There are an additional 52 underwriting agencies (known as coverholders) across France issuing policies on behalf of Lloyd’s underwriters direct to brokers and clients.
