- Lloyd’s (also known as Lloyd’s of London) is not an insurer
- Lloyd’s is an insurance marketplace but not itself an insurance company
- Insurance business is underwritten “AT” Lloyd’s - but policies are not insured “WITH” Lloyd’s or “BY” Lloyd’s
- Lloyd’s is the building where insurance business is traded between brokers and approximately 100, independent insurers - but Lloyd’s is not a party to any such policies and holds no records in respect of them
- An insured is not a customer or client of Lloyd’s and Lloyd’s therefore will hold no information in respect of individual insurance arrangements
- Lloyd’s has no access to copy policies, loss runs/claims histories, declaration pages, credentialing data, premium or claims records, the terms and conditions of a policy or any other details in respect of individual coverages
- There is no central database of policies so Lloyd’s cannot search for a policy number, an insured name or which broker/agent was used and cannot verify the existence or validity of a policy
- Lloyd’s itself is therefore unable to answer any questions in respect of individual insurance policies
Should you have an enquiry in respect of an individual policy, need to amend coverage or need any documentation shown in note 6 above, please contact the broker or agent that was used to purchase coverage. The broker/agent will have the relevant files and be able to advise further.
