Why you should host a shadowing session

Help our delegates step into the shoes of a Lloyd’s broker or underwriter, by hosting a broker or underwriter shadowing session in the Lloyd’s iconic underwriting room.

We match corporate risk managers and retail and wholesale brokers from around the globe, with Lloyd’s registered brokers and underwriters, so they can experience London Market experts placing risk from the inside.

Shadowing also provides a valuable business development opportunity for our hosts, many of whom have secured new leads and clients as a result of volunteering.

What’s involved?

  • Lloyd’s Academy team facilitates shadowing exercises for delegates attending our Signature programmes, including brokers and risk managers.
  • These exercises take place in the Underwriting Room for approx. 1.5 hours, during which your assigned delegate will observe the process of placing and negotiating risk at Lloyd’s - either spending time with an Underwriter at the box, or shadowing a Lloyd’s Broker to see what a typical day placing risk is like at Lloyd’s.
  • We encourage delegates to ask you questions and make the most of the opportunity to experience the Market up close.
  • For underwriter hosts, it is essential that your company has a box in the Underwriting Room where you can host the exercise.
  • Shadowing hosts will be matched with delegates from a relevant line of business, and the Lloyd’s Academy team will ensure that you have a copy of your delegate’s bio in advance.
  • You will also have the opportunity to participate in a networking lunch and we will provide you with materials to promote your shadowing experience on your own social media channels.
