Systemic Risk Masterclass Series: Insuring the uninsurable

Following from our first session, Stephen Catlin from Convex and the Pandemic Re working group will lead a panel of experts including Brian Duperreault of AIG and Julian Enoizi from Pool Re as they discuss how to better prepare yourself to respond to systemic risks.

You’ll learn about the skills, systems and processes that insurance professionals need to develop new solutions, the history and similarities of terrorism and systemic risk, and the implications of writing components of systemic risk sustainably.

In addition, you’ll come away with practical tools and guidance on what both market participants and businesses need to do to create sustainable solutions that protect against systemic risk.

Systemic Risk Masterclass Series: Understanding the vulnerabilities of global supply chains

COVID-19 has laid bare the vulnerabilities of global supply chains in the face of systemic risk. In this session John Ludlow, CEO of Airmic will lead a panel of experts including Isabelle Santenac, Global Insurance Leader at EY and Andrew Coburn, Chief Scientist at the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies in looking at those vulnerabilities, the role of insurance in addressing them, and the very real impact of accelerating climate change on supply chains and the wider risk landscape.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the risks and practical challenges, as well as insight into the skills and capabilities insurance professionals and businesses need to employ to manage the threat to supply chains.

Systemic Risk Masterclass Series: Simplifying insurance products

Sheila Cameron, CEO of the LMA will lead this session looking at how products and policy language can be simplified to benefit customers and reduce the risk of an expectation gap between insurers and customers.

She'll be joined by Julia Graham, Deputy CEO and Technical Director of Airmic; Tim Johnson, Partner at Browne Jacobson and Matt Brewis, Director of Insurance and Conduct at the FCA.

We’ll cover why an expectation gap can arise, and how solutions like parametrics and outcome-based contracts can reduce complexity, as well as how these solutions may change the way policies are designed and how claims are paid.

Systemic Risk Masterclass Series: Recognising risk: the systemic effects of internet and utility outages

A major utility outage represents significant systemic risk impacting business, society and the global insurance industry.  This interactive session will be led by Andrew Brooks, LMA board member and Group CEO of Ascot and will feature a panel of experts including Professor Sandra Chapman of Warwick University; Scott Stransky, Director of Cyber Modeling, Verisk Cyber Solutions; Tracey Skinner, Director-Insurance & Risk Financing at BT Group plc; and Luke Ogunlaja, Trainee Underwriter - Innovation Division at Tokio Marine Kiln.

Understand the steps you can take to increase your resilience to major outages.  We’ll look at everything from cyber attacks to space weather to better understand the effects of an outage and how to reflect the effects in exposure modelling and pricing.

Systemic Risk Masterclass Series: The insurance response – helping customers build resilience

To wrap up the series, we are honoured to have opening remarks from Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, followed by an interactive panel discussion. Sian Fisher, CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute will lead the panel including University of Oxford Professor Ian Goldin; FERMA CEO Typhaine Beaupérin; Aon CEO Greg Case; and Lloyd’s Chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown to examine the role insurance should play in helping build customers’ resilience to systemic risks.

We’ll examine what customers need from the insurance industry and how we can ensure the customer voice is embedded in product design and decision making, ultimately strengthening customer knowledge and understanding.
