Our story in Switzerland

Lloyd’s Underwriters were granted authorisation to commence operations in Switzerland from 1 January 1948, as per resolution of 31 October 1947 of the Swiss Federal Council.

Lloyd’s Underwriters are represented under Swiss law, for their entire Swiss business, by an appointed General Representative for Switzerland and are under the supervision of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA. In addition, the provisions concerning the supervision of private insurance companies are applied accordingly.

Supporting Swiss insurance industry for over 70 years

Lloyd’s in Switzerland works closely with a distribution network of, currently, 70 Lloyd’s intermediaries. These intermediaries are subject to the supervision of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA.

Our customers are the businesses and entrepreneurs who drive and serve the Swiss economy and they come to Lloyd’s to access the scale, diversity and financial strength of our specialist insurance and reinsurance market.

Lloyd’s provides tailored insurance and reinsurance solutions for a variety of Swiss risks including professional liability, general liability, accident, cyber threats, event cancellation, fine art, jewellers’ block, classic cars, property, transport and political risks.

The depth of expertise and breadth of products sets the Lloyd’s market apart. Customers have access to the combined scale, expertise and capacity of an entire market, not just a single insurance company.

As our world is reshaped by economic, environmental, geopolitical and technological shifts, the breadth, depth and responsiveness of the Lloyd’s market gives Swiss businesses the confidence to move forward in the face of uncertainty.

Please note that the Lloyd’s Office in Switzerland does not produce insurance contracts, calculate tariffs or perform any function relating to the final placing of a risk; this is the sole responsibility of the authorised intermediary and the Lloyd’s Broker in London respectively. Assureds contacting the Lloyd’s Office in Switzerland for such matters will be redirected to authorised intermediaries.
