Lloyd’s announces the appointment of Jim Bichard as Chief Financial Officer

16 January 2026

Lloyd’s, the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance market, today announces that Jim Bichard has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer. He will start in April 2026 and will become a member of Lloyd’s Executive Team, reporting directly to Patrick Tiernan, Chief Executive, and join the Council of Lloyd’s.

Jim currently leads PwC’s global insurance practice, overseeing services to clients across all industry segments. With 30 years at PwC, including five in New York, he has deep expertise in technology-enabled transformation across finance, operations, and front office. Jim also advises on innovative insurance and broker deals including transactions for innovative capital structures. He started his career in audit and moved into advisory roles including leading the capital, risk and regulatory practice in UK & EMEA. He previously headed PwC’s UK insurance practice and the Lloyd’s, London market and broking business.

He will replace Alexandra Cliff who will be leaving Lloyd’s to pursue other opportunities.

“I’m delighted to welcome Jim to Lloyd’s. He brings a deep knowledge of the global insurance industry, as well as a clear-eyed view of how capital, risk and clients intersect in a changing world. Lloyd’s is entering an exciting phase, as we launch a new strategy with greater global ambition, strong momentum behind our market and a growing opportunity to support the global economy through innovation. Jim’s calibre, standing in the market and experience will be invaluable as we continue to build an exceptional leadership team for the future of Lloyd’s.

“I would also like to thank Alex for her significant contribution to Lloyd’s over the years. Her leadership has been important in strengthening the financial foundations of the Corporation and the market. In her time at Lloyd’s the finance team has sharpened our discipline and enhanced Lloyd’s appeal to an increasingly diverse and global pool of capital. I and the rest of the leadership team wish her all the very best for the next phase of her career.”
Patrick Tiernan, Lloyd’s Chief Executive
“I am hugely excited to be joining Lloyd’s at such a pivotal moment. Through my work across the London market and around the world, I have seen first-hand the unique role Lloyd’s plays in enabling trade, protecting communities and absorbing the risks others cannot. Lloyd’s matters to the global economy in a way few institutions do. I am looking forward to working with Patrick, colleagues across the market, and existing and future capital providers to support sustainable growth, disciplined underwriting and long-term value for all our stakeholders.”
Jim Bichard, incoming CFO, Lloyd’s

Jim’s appointment is subject to approval and consent from the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Through the collective intelligence and expertise of the network’s underwriters and brokers, we connect risk to capital, provide global access to trading partners across borders, and innovative solutions that protect societies and businesses worldwide.

The Lloyd’s market is made up of over 50 leading insurance companies, more than 400 registered brokers and a global network of over 2,900 local coverholders. That reach is extended by the global licenses and regulatory permissions we hold, which enable customers to access insurance solutions in 80 countries, reinsurance solutions in 100 countries and offshore reinsurance in over 200 territories.

In 2024, the Lloyd’s market underwrote £55.5bn in insurance premiums, backed by over £100bn of centrally held capital. It underwrites risk spread by syndication and its financial strength is amplified by a strong balance sheet, excellent credit ratings, and a chain of security.

Behind the Lloyd’s market is the Corporation: an independent organisation and regulator working to maintain the market's successful reputation and operation.
