Mount Everest Charity stair climb challenge

Want to support our veterans?

The Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund invites you to take part in a sponsored ‘Mount Everest Charity Stair Climb Challenge’ throughout January. In teams up to four, or as an individual, you will have one month to ‘summit’ Everest and raise as much as possible for charities supporting veterans’ mental health.

Why should I do it?

From Afghanistan to Libya, recent geopolitical events have reminded us of the sacrifice our Armed Forces veterans continue to make today. Even after active service, many suffer trauma and difficulty integrating into society as a result of their experiences.

We want to support those veterans and the charities working with them… and maybe burn off a few calories in the process.

What’s 29,000ft in stairs…?

Mount Everest is 29,029 ft high (or 8,848 meters) high, so a team will need to climb 58,070 stairs to reach the summit! Based on a set of 15 steps on a flight of stairs, that’s 3,871 times up the stairs. You can calculate your own target based on the number of steps in your office building or at home.

Where and when does it take place?

Individuals and teams can complete the challenge in their offices, at home… wherever they use stairs! The event will start on January 1st 2022 and finish as soon as you have completed the challenge.

This is a vertical climb challenge – so you can take the lift back down!

How do I enter?

You can enter as an individual or as a team.

Email your entries by 1st January 2022 to enter, making sure to include:

Send your entries to:

How do I fundraise?

  • You will be able to start fundraising via the official Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund Mount Everest Stair Climb Challenge Campaign on JustGiving
  • The Global Community Engagement team will send all participants a guide on how to set up a fundraising page when they enter
  • You will also be able to request match funding from your company where available

How do I track progress?

There are lots of different ways that you can track your activity, such as fitness tracking devices and apps on your phone. These will help you to keep track of your activity and the number of stairs and flights you climb. Contact us if you need support with tracking.

Team leaders/individuals are invited to submit a weekly step count to the Global Community Engagement team at Lloyd’s and a leader board will be circulated to participants each week.
