Ever thought about being the trustee of a charity?

Tue 07 May 2019

Lloyd’s Charities Trust and Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund are both looking for talented and committed individuals to join their boards

Passionate about making a difference to support the armed forces community or disaster risk reduction charities? Two of Lloyd’s independent charities are looking for new trustees to share their passion and help set their strategic direction and future vision. Both UK registered charities, they form part of Lloyd’s responsible business strategy to help create a braver world and help people and communities recover in times of need.

Lloyd’s Charities Trust: building resilient communities by supporting causes relevant to the market and our people.

The Lloyd’s insurance market enables the sharing of risk in a world facing diverse challenges. For more than 60 years, Lloyd’s Charities Trust has helped to build resilient and sustainable communities where it matters most through global disaster risk reduction and supporting local causes.

Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund has been bringing together the Lloyd’s insurance market for the last two hundred years to support veterans and their families today.

Founded in 1803, Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund is the oldest military charity of its kind. We are proud of our history and contributions to support the armed forces community, but we recognise that as a charity, we need to adapt to address the needs of veteran’s today. In an increasingly competitive landscape, Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund is committed to uniting support from the market to aid the successful transition to civilian life for veterans and their families.

As part of the trustee board, your job is to ensure the charity achieves its objectives. The board is jointly and separately responsible for: the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity; its financial health; the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

You will work as part of a small team of trustees who meet three times per year. Between meetings, you will provide support and advice to the Responsible Business team at Lloyd’s who run the charities.

Thinking about becoming a trustee?

People volunteer as trustees for lots of reasons; to give back to society, contribute to a cause that they are passionate about, put their skills to good use and learn new ones, and for personal reward such as job satisfaction and motivation. You can read more about Vicky’s experiences as a trustee of Lloyd’s Charities Trust and Alex’s experiences as a trustee of Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund.
