LMCA 2016The annual Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards, run by Lloyd’s Charities Trust, opens today for applications.

Colleagues working in the Lloyd’s market are invited to nominate a charity of their choice to receive a donation of £2,000. Donations are given to charities in recognition of an individual’s fundraising and voluntary work. Awards are also made to charities that have given invaluable support to those whose lives have been affected by difficult circumstances.

Last year, Marcus Simeoni of Cobra London Markets Ltd won a donation for Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV). Marcus is an active volunteer with SERV, using his own transport to carry emergency blood and blood products where they are urgently needed.

Run by highly skilled volunteers like Marcus, SERV provides a free and reliable service year round, and the impact of its work is considerable. It is estimated that SERV saves the NHS approximately £250,000 every year on transport costs, money which can be spent on patient care.

Commenting on the award, Marcus said: "Supplying hospitals in the area where we live and work is immensely satisfying and a night short of sleep is a small price to pay knowing that we are helping to save lives. The money raised ensures we can continue to provide a vital service.”

This year, another 30 donation winners will be selected by trustees of Lloyd’s Charities Trust.

The closing date for entries is 1 October 2016 and the donation winners will be announced at a reception in December.
