The event was attended by 100 guests, comprising representatives of Lloyd’s brokers, coverholders, local brokers, Spanish media, clients and most representatives market’s associations. The event was also attended by Mr Vincent Vandendael, Lloyd’s Director of International Markets.

The awards ceremony was opened by Juan Arsuaga, Lloyd’s Iberia Managing Director, who affirmed that the business placed through Binding Authorities represents, for Lloyd’s Iberia, almost €40m in premiums and that coverholders’ business represents 25% of the Lloyd’s business worldwide. He also highlighted that coverholders are making a great effort to be able to compete in a soft market and have to focus on an efficient underwriting, a good service and highly specialised products. He also mentioned that Lloyd’s keeps collaborating with the DGS to improve coverholders regulation in Spain, since currently Spanish coverholders cannot work on a FOS basis in other EU countries. He thanked the assistance received to agree a proposal to the members of the Distribution Commission: UNESPA, the Consejo General de los Colegios de Mediadores, ADECOSE, among others. Vincent Vandendael also highlighted to attendees the importance of coverholders as an access platform to Lloyd’s.

Before the awards ceremony, the “Coverholder at Lloyd’s” plaque was given to Ayax Suscripción de Riesgos, ANV Global Services and Dual Ibérica Riesgos Profesionales, as 2013 approved coverholders; and to Becier Assegurances, Liberty Syndicate Services and Spanish Insurance Solutions, which had not yet received their plaques.

The winners of 2013 Compromiso Awards are: 

  • Best website: Spanish Insurance Solutions. The award was collected by Benjamin Fletcher;
  • Most efficient business model (ex aequo): Catlin Iberia and ANV Global Services. The awards were collected by Jose Nuñez and Luc Joordens, respectively;
  • Best Product: Names Agencia de Suscripción. The award was collected by Luis Heras.

The judging panel was comprised by Mrs Pilar González de Frutos, Chairwoman of UNESPA (Spanish Insurers Association), Mrs Susana Pérez, General Manager of INESE (Reed Business Information), Mr José María Campabadal, Chairman of the Consejo General de Mediadores (major Spanish Association of Intermediaries); Mr Martín Navaz, Chairman of ADECOSE (major Spanish Association of Brokers); and Vincent Vandendael, Lloyd’s Director of International Markets. Also representatives from Peninsula Underwriting, 2013 winner of “Most efficient business model” and “Best product”, and Catlin Iberia, 2013 winner of the “Best website” category, were part of the panel.
