Lloyd's in the Netherlands

Lloyd’s has been authorised in the Benelux to transact business on a freedom of establishment since 1 January 1994 and opened a permanent office in Rotterdam in March 2011. In addition, the office is responsible for Belgium and Luxembourg.

The Dutch insurance market is the world’s 11th and Europe’s 3rd largest non-life insurance market in terms of gross direct premiums, generated almost EURO 485 million in premiums in 2012. This makes Benelux a significant and strategic market for Lloyd’s.

All direct business as well as reinsurance risks can be written from the Lloyd’s platform in London, which is well positioned to take advantage of the development and trends in the Dutch insurance market.

Ralph van Helden is responsible for managing the Lloyd’s office in Rotterdam; raising the profile of Lloyd’s and assisting the market to develop their business in the Benelux.

Previously Ralph was employed at Marsh Rotterdam for ten years. Ralph has 23 years experience in the insurance business and has first hand knowledge of the Benelux market. He is also fluent in Dutch and English and conversational German and French.
