KPIs and evidencing your progress

Measuring your progress

It’s important you are able to measure the progress you’re making within your organisation. 

We recommend that you set KPIs for the areas you are focusing on and the ways in which you will measure this progress.

To help get you started, we have created some example KPIs for each of the five key behaviours, as well as some suggested ways you can evidence this. We hope you find these useful and that they provide a starting point for you to benchmark your progress.

Leadership

Suggested KPIs

  • % of leadership who have attended behaviour-based training
  • % of leaders who offer coaching/mentoring

Evidence

  • Board (committee) minutes and actions
  • Culture working group/steering committee minutes and actions
  • Budget planning to include culture initiatives
  • Risk Management and internal audit annual plans/culture reviews
  • Talent metrics/ Succession planning
  • Performance review process 
  • Employee engagement survey

Ethics

Suggested KPIs

  • % of workforce that has participated in bystander training
  • Number of grievances raised

Evidence

  • Conduct policies (e.g. behavioural framework/policy, grievance policy, drugs and alcohol policy, etc.)
  • Written description of what good looks like and the training provided to embed
  • Induction programme
  • Performance review process
  • Ethics related survey/feedback
  • Mandatory ethics training completion rate

Respect

Suggested KPIs

  • % of employees who feel they are treated with respect
  • % of senior leaders who offer 360o feedback

Evidence

  • Bullying and discrimination policy
  • Harassment policy
  • Line managers training modules
  • Number of grievances relating to senior/junior relationships 
  • Issues escalation process and resolution plans

Trust

Suggested KPIs

  • The proportion of grievances that do not result in tangible outcomes
  • % of employees who take advantage of the flexible working policy

Evidence

  • Whistleblowing policy
  • Flexible working policies
  • Reports of relationships with customers that demonstrate trust
  • Evidence of leadership activity to build trust
  • Decision making lines that demonstrate distributed autonomy and accountability

Motivation

Suggested KPIs

  • % of employees who take advantage of benefits on offer
  • % of employees who attend training to develop their professional skills
