Toolkits for achieving a high performing culture at Lloyd’s

The foundations of a high-performing culture at Lloyd’s

The success of our market depends as much on creating the best environment for our people and setting the framework for the most inclusive culture, as it does on executing our performance and strategic priorities. We recognise that Lloyd’s has much work to do to create a more inclusive culture for all who work in the market and are committed to taking action to drive and accelerate that transformation.

We have therefore produced a toolkit to help companies achieve a high performing culture within their organisations, including checklists and suggested KPIs.

The Future at Lloyd’s will build the most advanced insurance marketplace in the world, where people will want to work because we have a genuinely inclusive culture, the most talented people and a working environment that allows people to give their best – whether in person or virtually. Shaping our culture so the ways we work are modern and high performing will allow our current and future talent to thrive personally and professionally. We recognise that the Lloyd’s market has not historically provided an inclusive culture for all who work here and have now committed to create a diverse and meritocratic workplace for all our colleagues.

This toolkit seeks to provide you with the understanding of what a high performing culture looks like, how you can reflect on your own organisational culture and some guidance on what can be done to drive improvement.

It’s based around five foundational themes of leadership, ethics, respect, trust and motivation, and the corresponding indicators that will help to assess your organisation’s maturity together with the opportunities there are to make progress. As we make improvements across these areas, all the research that underpins this toolkit suggests our business performance will improve, we’ll be more competitive across the globe, we will attract and retain talent, and ultimately rise to the standards we have set ourselves.

These five themes are the foundation.

Lloyd’s culture framework

To help you identify and measure where your organisation’s level of culture maturity may be, Lloyd’s have developed a culture framework, consisting of ten key characteristics that form a high performing culture.

A description of how the market can demonstrate these behaviours

We understand there are a lot of areas to embed and therefore suggest organisations should initially focus on establishing these first five key characteristics.

Reflect on your culture maturity

Lloyd’s expects all organisations in the market to be developing their culture maturity by putting the right foundations in place as outlined below. We would therefore expect to see firms making an effort to improve their culture if their culture maturity falls below the suggested developing level.
