Introducing our new trustees to help build the capacity of our charities

We’re delighted to make ten new appointments across three charities to help address key issues facing the insurance sector around; innovation, managing risk, building resilient communities and empowering individuals to reach their potential. All three charities have their own trustees made up from professionals across our market, academia and wider.

Through Lloyd’s charities and Lloyd’s responsible business initiatives, in 2018:

  • £1.4 million was donated to 198 organisations globally
  • 80 young people received work placements
  • 3,000 people volunteered from more than 70 companies in the market.

Lloyd’s Charities Trust

Lloyd’s Charities Trust partners with charities that aim to reduce the risk of devastation to the people who need it most, helping the most vulnerable groups with disaster risk reduction. It also supports causes close to the hearts of our people in the Lloyd’s market in London, supporting their charities with unrestricted grants through the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Vicky Carter, Chairman – Global Capital Solutions International at Guy Carpenter, as the new Chair of our disaster resilience charity, Lloyd’s Charities Trust. Vicky has been a trustee since 2014 and is also a board member of Lloyd’s Community Programme; our market wide volunteering initiative.

Elizabeth Cabrera is Head of Underwriting Planning and Portfolio Management at StarStone Group. Prior to this, she served in several senior underwriting, actuarial and risk management roles across an international remit, including Talbot Underwriting, Chubb Europe and the PRA.  She joined the Lloyd’s Charities Trust Board because she is interested in the impact of climate change and promoting behaviours that could help manage or mitigate this major risk.

With 200 years of history of Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund, Ed is committed to ensuring that the charity remains fit for purpose for another 200 years.
