Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund supports Armed Forces charities
Saturday 30 June marks Armed Forces Day across the UK, showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.
Lloyd’s is committed to supporting the Armed Forces; including our active military network, and the Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund (LPF), an independent charity which has supported the Armed Forces Community on behalf of the market for over two hundred years.
In the past ten years, LPF has made grants of over £3m to help Britain’s Armed Forces and their families. In 2017 LPF donated £100,000 each to Stoll and Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company to address key issues in the sector.
LPF is the oldest military charity of its kind and has long standing relationships with SSAFA, Gurkha Welfare Trust, Royal Navy Officers’ Charity, Royal Navy and Royal Marine Children’s Fund.

In celebration of Armed Forces Day, we are proud to share our achievements a year on…
LPF has funded three vital services with Stoll, a charity that aims to house and support vulnerable veterans to live as independently as possible. This has helped:
- 21 veterans receive counselling sessions through the Drug and Alcohol Service. The impacts of these sessions reduce harm, improve wellbeing and resilience and enable independence to move on to education, employment or training.
- 50 single working age veterans secure tenancies across Greater London, enabling them to transition to civilian life with support. This can be key to preventing homelessness.
- 70 vulnerable or elderly veterans receive domestic practical and emotional support in Stoll’s supported accommodation. This means that residents can avoid entering a care home before they need to and ensures quality of life.
Kevin has been supported by the Drug and Alcohol Service since moving into a Stoll property.

LPF also funded a new welfare and employability programme (STEP IN) with the Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company; a social enterprise employing ex-forces personnel. This aims to help veterans (especially those with health conditions and disabilities) become work ready. The programme includes needs assessments, five day employability courses (LifeWorks), paid work experience and qualifications.
In the past 12 months, 24 veterans received a personalised assessment, 19 took part in LifeWorks, 15 accessed paid work placements, five gained qualifications and six people secured permanent employment.
Mark suffers with severe post traumatic stress disorder. After his relationship broke down, things began to unravel and he lived homeless for eight months before being referred to BBMC. Mark attended a LifeWorks course where he identified that a job in security would fit both his skills and his interests. With support, he has studied for and successfully gained a license from the Security Industry Authority. He has recently accepted a job offer with a well known security company.
To think where I was last year, I mean it wasn’t me. I was so low, sleeping rough. I’m really pleased with myself to think what I’ve done. I couldn’t have done it without all this help though. I don’t know where I’d be today without it.Mark
