In total, 32 charities were honoured by Lloyd’s Charites Trust, in recognition of the support they receive from individuals working in the Lloyd’s market.

The winners accepted their £2,000 grant at a gala reception in the Underwriting Room, before an audience of charity representatives, colleagues, friends and family.

The awards were presented by Chris Harman, Chairman of Lloyd’s Charities Trust and Partner of JLT, who remarked: “The trustees were so impressed by the efforts of this year’s winners. From showing great resolve in the face of adversity, to organising black-tie events, chairing charities and swimming across the Channel. People in the Lloyd’s market are making a fantastic impact and we are delighted to recognise that through the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards.”

One of the winners, Jack Western from Willis Re, along with his chosen charity, Key4Life supports a rehabilitation programme to prevent re-offending amongst young men released from prison. He is a dedicated mentor, providing training and guidance to young ex-offenders before and after their release. Furthermore, he has coordinated a number of work placements at Willis Re, and has even encouraged other colleagues to become mentors themselves.

Commenting on the award, Western said: “It is very rewarding to see the progress achieved by my mentee. We are working together to find him permanent employment, and the early signs are very encouraging. I have acted, along with the charity, as a support system that he never had prior to his involvement with Key4Life. I am glad that this award will support such a great charity – and most importantly, the young people who need our support.”

Another winner, Caroline Wright from QBE, won an award on behalf of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Commenting on the award, Wright said: “I am delighted to have won a Lloyd’s Market Charity Award for my chosen charity. I am a deaf recipient of a hearing dog called Rolo, and my life has changed enormously since Rolo came into my life. This grant will help support the time, effort and costs that go into training these wonderful dogs.”

  • Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards, now in their ninth year, support charities that are important to colleagues in the Lloyd’s market. The annual awards are run by Lloyd’s Charities Trust, a grant making foundation, which provides charitable donations on behalf of the Lloyd’s market.
