You may have seen quite a bit of my face over the last couple of weeks. My profile photo has not only been emblazoned across lloyds.com but has played a ‘starring’ role in demonstrating our touch tables. It’s not my best side but at least people won’t recognise me…

Last Wednesday evening I presented to over 150 market participants, although not the biggest audience ever, most of these were friends and colleagues who wouldn’t forgive any nervousness.

Last month I attended parent’s evening at my daughter’s school. During the meet and greet with her teacher, a young graduate not long out of school herself, I became conscious of how uncomfortable I must look - dishevelled from the fraught daily commute and sitting in a chair designed for a six-year-old.

I'm not really sure what possessed me to agree to abseil 297 feet down the Lloyd’s building. Heights? Not fond. Abseiling? Never done it. Spur of the moment? Probably.

We are into the 2012 hurricane season and with two tropical storms occurring before it even started (officially on 1 June) you could be forgiven for thinking we are in for a busy season.
