Wildfire poses a serious threat to communities; burning and destroying properties, especially on the fringe of urban and rural areas in Australia and parts of the US, such as California and Colorado, otherwise known as the Wildland Urban Interface. As property development is expanding in these areas due to more and more people wanting to move there, the economic and insured losses from wildfires could potentially increase.

Last Wednesday evening I presented to over 150 market participants, although not the biggest audience ever, most of these were friends and colleagues who wouldn’t forgive any nervousness.

Last month I attended parent’s evening at my daughter’s school. During the meet and greet with her teacher, a young graduate not long out of school herself, I became conscious of how uncomfortable I must look - dishevelled from the fraught daily commute and sitting in a chair designed for a six-year-old.
