RIMS annual conference Hawaii 23 – 27 April

The Risk and Insurance Management Society conference (RIMS) brings US risk management and insurance industries together. Lloyd’s market practitioners will be on the Lloyd’s stand throughout the event. Lloyd’s Director of Worldwide Markets, Julian James, and President of Lloyd’s America, Wendy Baker, are also attending. San Francisco Earthquake 100th Anniversary 19 April

Lloyd’s is hosting a reception in San Francisco for the local insurance industry and Lloyd’s market practitioners to mark the centenary of this event. Lloyd’s is also sponsoring and participating in some of the city’s other official events commemorating the earthquake.

Lord Levene’s US visit 9 – 13 January

Lloyd’s chairman Lord Levene spoke to the Downtown Association and the Insurance Brokers Association of New York on 11 January, which coincided with his attendance at the annual US Joint Property/Casualty Forum, in New York on 10 January. The speech entitled “When the winds blows: The outlook after the hurricanes” is available on www.lloyds.com.

European Risk forum

Delegates from across Europe explored the issues facing risk managers, insurers and reinsurers at the European Risk Forum. The event was also the scene of the announcement that Lloyd’s has been given the go-ahead to develop a presence in China. Chinese President Hu Jintao gave the news to Lord Levene during a visit to 10 Downing Street.

Xchanging conference

Lloyd’s director of worldwide markets, Julian James, delivered a keynote address at the annual Xchanging conference in Brighton. His speech spelt out what the market needed to do to retain and enhance its world- class status. The speech entitled “Lloyd’s: still a world-class market?” is available on www.lloyds.com.
