Lloyd's Community Programme

Building a stronger local community through volunteering in east London.

Get Involved

Lloyd's Community Programme volunteers help to build a stronger local community by getting involved in projects in east London. In 2015, we want to match the success of previous years and work with people across the Lloyd's market to share their skills and enthusiasm.

Volunteering can range from an hour a week to just one day and is hugely rewarding for all involved. Over 45 managing agents and brokers in the Lloyd's market are supporters of Lloyd's Community Programme. If you are interested, have a look at our four focus areas to find out which volunteer opportunity is right for you.

Coming up...

We are delighted to welcome you to another year of exciting volunteering opportunities through Lloyd’s Community Programme.

Feel free to share and invite your colleagues to any (or all) of the activities below:

World Book Day 5 March 2015 - Bring Your Colleague Along Week

We are planning a range of engaging activities for our existing volunteers and we would love to use this opportunity to attract new colleagues to join the 600 strong Lloyd’s Community Programme Reading Team.

Here is how you can help:

  • Organise a Lunch & Learn or a recruitment presentation to show your colleagues what it’s all about. We will be more than happy to come along or just send over some useful materials.
  • Follow @Lloyd’sofLondon and our partner charity @TowerHamletsEBP on Twitter and LinkedIn – we will be posting latest news, interesting stories and events from 16 February onwards.
  • Invite your colleagues to another Bring Your Colleague Along Week 2-6 March 2015. As usual, schools will be expecting additional volunteers, so no DBS checks will be required in this instance. We would just need to know the full list of volunteers in advance.
  • Talk to your school and see what they are planning for World Book Day – there could be something specific for you to get involved with.

Team Challenge Just Turn Up day - Thursday 26 March 2015

Our charity partner ELBA is organising a Just Turn Up day on Thursday 26 March 2015 for volunteers to simply turn up and lend a hand on a project in the community. Just Turn Up days are a great opportunity for you to volunteer your time, gain an insight into what volunteering involves, whilst meeting other volunteers and having lots of fun.

The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park are the custodians of London’s most urban woodland and closed, historic cemetery and they need help creating a Secret Garden! You will help bringing to life an inspirational greening project in a totally unassuming place...on a wall in the Leopold Estate! The plan is to create a living wall full of flowering and edible plants and they would love you to join them and local residents in this exciting project to help build the wall, plant the wall and care for the wall.

Reading and Number Partners

We are preparing to celebrate World Book Day on 4 March and will be circulating some exciting ideas on how your volunteers might become a part of it – stay tuned for more information to follow shortly. In the meantime, we have the following training sessions planned at Lloyd’s:

Spring Neighbourhood Games – 9 April 2015, PlayOn Sports, Canary Wharf
Invite your colleagues to volunteer at a sports tournament for local children - if they love sports, this is a fantastic opportunity to share that passion with kids. Please be aware that this event gets fully booked quite quickly.

Getting Ahead – 19 May 2015, 8:30 - 13:00, Langdon Park School
This is a half-day conference helping 14-15 year-old students build employability skills through a series of fast-paced, engaging workshops. Please do get in touch if you are interested in volunteering for this scheme.

Aim2Attain
This programme provides a portfolio of activities to build aspirations and knowledge, encouraging students to consider the further education and training opportunities open to them. We are looking for companies to host and provide volunteers for these two hour workshops. The programme is especially popular with employees who are keen to volunteer, but are struggling to fit it in their busy schedules. Please do get in touch if you are interested in hosting one of these sessions – we have a range of dates available between now and July 2015.

Recruitment Presentations
Finally, we would be delighted to join you for a Lunch & Learn or a breakfast presentation for your colleagues to talk about all of the different volunteering opportunities that they can sign up for throughout the year. Please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more or booking a date.

For more information or to sign up to any of these volunteering opportunities please email Helene.CarpentierdeCaro@lloyds.com or telephone: +44 (0)20 7327 6202. You can also email Ana.Svab@thebp.co.uk or telephone: +44 (0)20 7655 0317.
