Lloyd's Community Programme

Building a stronger local community through volunteering in east London.

Get Involved

Lloyd's Community Programme volunteers help to build a stronger local community by getting involved in projects in east London. In 2015, we want to match the success of previous years and work with people across the Lloyd's market to share their skills and enthusiasm.

Volunteering can range from an hour a week to just one day and is hugely rewarding for all involved. Over 45 managing agents and brokers in the Lloyd's market are supporters of Lloyd's Community Programme. If you are interested, have a look at our four focus areas to find out which volunteer opportunity is right for you.

Coming up...

We are delighted to welcome you to another year of exciting volunteering opportunities through Lloyd’s Community Programme.

Feel free to share and invite your colleagues to any (or all) of the activities below:

Number Partners Challenge, Registration Closes Wednesday 20th May 2015

The Number Partner Challenge is designed for Years 4-6 (ages 8-11), but pupils of any age are welcome to take part, from any of our Partner Schemes (Reading, Chess etc). Schools can enter multiple teams, with a maximum of four pupils being supported by one volunteer (or teacher).

Over three weeks there will be a series of number activities based on problem solving, logic and team work. Each one will be designed to fit within a volunteer’s usual 30 minute partner session but we do not expect that all teams will complete the activity in 30 minutes – volunteers should support their team to complete as much as they can.

Each week, the activity and entry sheet will be sent round to volunteers and teachers at the schools taking part and after three weeks, the top scoring teams will be invited to a Grand Final. We are delighted to announce that year’s Grand Final will once again be hosted by Commerzbank.

Please contact Helene Carpentier de Caro (Helene.CarpentierdeCaro@lloyds.com) if you would like to register and she will send you the forms you will need to fill out. The challenge is open to all volunteers and pupils – not just those currently on Number Partner schemes. A registration form for each team/volunteer should be submitted by Wednesday 20 May 2015.

Reading and Number Partners

As always, we are looking for more volunteers to join our most popular schemes.

Computer skills workshop – Starting 1 June for 6 weeks, 12:45 - 13:15 , John Scurr primary school

Can you spare 30 minutes of your Wednesday lunchtime to help students aged 9-10 from John Scurr primary school in Tower Hamlets improve their computer skills? The sessions will take place at the school from 1 June for six weeks from 12:45 until 13:15. One of the session will take place at Lloyd’s for the students to get the chance to find out where you work.

Volunteers will be briefed in advance and no DBS check will be required.

For more information and to register your interest please email Helene Carpentier de Caro (Helene.CarpentierdeCaro@lloyds.com) or telephone + 44 (0)20 7327 6202.

Bring Your Colleague Along Week, 1 – 7 June 2015

We are delighted to invite you to take part in another Bring Your Colleague Along Week – a chance to inspire potential volunteers by experiencing first-hand what it is like to be a Reading or Number Partner in a Tower Hamlets school.

If you, or one of your volunteers, know a colleague who could inspire and motivate a child in Tower Hamlets to fall in love with reading and maths, why not nominate them to come along during the Volunteers’ Week and spend 30 minutes reading or playing numeracy games with a student.

As a one-off opportunity, your colleagues will not require a DBS check. We will however need to give the school the full list of people to expect in advance, so please make sure to let Ana Svab (Ana.Svab@thebp.co.uk) know who will be joining you on the day no later than 28 May 2015.

Aim2Attain (Mulberry Girls Sixth Form) – 10 June 2015, 15:30 - 17:30, Lloyd's

We launched our new partnership with Mulberry Girls Sixth Form at the beginning of the year and are currently recruiting volunteers for the next workshop on personal statements of the UCAS form at Lloyd’s on 10 June 2015, 15:30 – 17:30. For more information or to sign-up please email Helene Carpentier de Caro (Helene.CarpentierdeCaro@lloyds.com) or telephone + 44 (0)20 7327 6202.

Aim2Attain (Morpeth School) – Host a workshop

Host one of the two hour long Aim2Attain workshops and support us as we work to encourage some of the most gifted Tower Hamlets students to consider the further education and training opportunities open to them. These workshops are especially popular with employees who are keen to volunteer, but are struggling to fit it in their busy schedules and are also great to raise awareness of volunteering within your company. Please do get in touch with Michaele Hawkins (Michaele.Hawkins@lloyds.com) if you are interested in hosting one of these sessions for Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets:

  • 26 June – Careers and choices

  • 6 July – Careers speed networking

  • 14 July – revision session
