Summer Internship

How do you know if you’d like to start your career at Lloyd’s? Come and join us for a summer internship and find out for yourself. If you’re in your penultimate year of university you could get real experience on a live project, as well as insight into Lloyd’s and the entire global industry. All of which will put you in an excellent position should you decide to pursue a career in insurance by applying for one of our graduate programmes. Applications for the 2013 intake are now closed.

What will you experience?
Joining us for eight weeks between mid-June and mid-August, you’ll spend your time within the Corporation, based in a business area that currently recruits graduates. You’ll be a key member of your team, and will take on a project from start to finish, which will give you a great opportunity to see how Lloyd’s works in action.

What you actually do on your placement will vary depending upon the area which you join. In Underwriting Performance, for example, you could be working closely with managing agents in the market to evaluate their business plans. In Delegated Authorities, you could work across all areas of the department, and get involved in approving new coverholders. Elsewhere, you might be exploring trends in the claims that are made, or even developing a product such as ‘Regional Watch’ - a regularly published piece of research that gathers market intelligence for a number of territories worldwide. Whatever you do, you’ll be learning and building on your skills as you discover new areas of interest.

What next?
We want your summer internship to be worthwhile, so we’ll give you specific objectives to work towards, and at the end of the eight weeks we’ll review your progress to see how much you’ve achieved. An internship is particularly useful if you’re considering applying to one of our graduate programmes (although it’s not a prerequisite). As well as learning more about Lloyd’s, it will give you the chance to meet our people – including our current graduates and senior business managers. Impress us and (if you’re similarly impressed by us), we might offer you a guaranteed place on one of our graduate programmes for the following year, provided that you achieve a 2.1.

> Development & support

From the day you start, you’ll have the benefit of a specially-assigned ‘buddy’, who’ll show you the ropes and make sure you settle in.

> After the internship

We expect that, when you’ve completed the internship, you’ll have tackled some stimulating challenges; gained valuable experience of the business world; developed some highly-transferable skills; and formed a strong network of contacts.

> How to apply

Summer internship applications for the 2013 intake are now closed.

> Salary & benefits

As part of the internship, you’ll receive a salary of £300 per week, along with a range of benefits.

> Who we're looking for

Broadly speaking, we’re looking for people with the potential to be one of our future graduate intake (and ultimately, you might say, one of the leading lights in the industry). That means we’ll be looking for much the same qualities as we do in our graduate candidates. Briefly, that covers:
