I am still astounded at how different my life is in comparison to last year. Looking back I had quite a journey prior to joining Lloyd’s. After university I pursued a number of interests including financial news, law and travelling. Finally, I followed a path that led me to discover a career in insurance at Lloyd’s of London.

It is that time of year again – the end of renewal season. Walking through the underwriting room you can’t help but notice the bigger than usual buzz as the 1 January fast approaches. While underwriters and brokers are busier than ever on the ground floor of the building, it is a quiet time for some of the other residents at Lloyd’s.

It is fair to say that insurance is painfully misunderstood as an industry; mention the ‘L-word’ to your average passer-by, and tacky adverts and call centres are likely to spring to their mind. Take insurance in its Square Mile surroundings, however, and to many people it will mean majestic buildings playing host to well-established, domineering firms.
