President George W. Bush said Wednesday the government will continue to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the wake of Hurricane Gustav, as companies request the oil.
Bush spoke during a visit to Louisiana, where me met with Gov. Bobby Jindal and reviewed recovery efforts from the storm, which came ashore Monday. Bush referred to the government's granting a request by Citgo Petroleum Tuesday for 250,000 barrels from the SPR.
"Last night we got a request from a company doing business here in Louisiana, and we met that request," Bush said. "And so oil was released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. We will continue to do that upon requests by companies."
