Lloyd's Worldwide Compliance Winter 2008 - Issue nine

Welcome

Issue nine of the Worldwide Compliance Newsletter illustrates the wide geographical range of the Lloyd’s market’s interests, with articles on developments in many different countries. As well as legislative developments, we report on new business opportunities, and a change in Lloyd’s representation in Japan.

Many countries are seeking to update key regulatory legislation. Germany’s insurance contract law has undergone extensive change, and we discuss the impact of the new law in this issue. Of course, much of the law and regulation affecting European insurers originates in Brussels, and we report on legislation, existing or proposed, in three separate areas.

Legislative developments in the US affecting insurance are always of interest to Lloyd’s. A major recent development is the finalisation of the extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, which is summarised here. We also report on developments with the US Virgin Islands Insurance Guaranty Association. To prove that we are not only interested in problems, we also report on insurance markets opening up to Lloyd’s underwriters in Brazil and Chile.
