Lord Levene touched down in Texas last week where he met with Jerry Jones, the owner of the American football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and toured their new stadium, which will be the world’s largest column-free room.

Lloyd’s is one of the main reinsurers of the new stadium, which is still under construction.

Due to be open before the 2009 NFL season, the stadium will accommodate 80,000 to 100,000 people and will be large enough to fit the entire Statue of Liberty and its base. It will be home to Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

Lloyd’s also provides personal accident and disability cover for a number of the Dallas Cowboys players.

Aviation
While in the state, Levene also visited Higher Power Aviation (HPA), a leader in the aviation training industry, providing pilot certification tuition for pilots and crew working for top global airlines and the US Naval Reserves.

HPA trains between 1,200 and 1,500 pilots a year, many of whom go on to work for the top global airlines that Lloyd’s insures.

Lloyd’s is a key player in the global and US aerospace industry, including airline fleets, airport operations and liability, and other associated transport risks.

In 2007 Lloyd’s wrote business worth $1.5bn in Texas. The market is Texas’ largest surplus lines insurer, making the Lone Star State the largest in the US for Lloyd’s.
