World exclusive magazine deals, the latest couture dress and crates of Laurent Perrier Rosé champagne have become the ultimate must-haves for a WAG’s wedding.
With footballer Wayne Rooney and his partner Coleen McLoughlin tying the knot in Portofino, Italy last week, no extravagance was spared.
Top notch florists were under instruction to lavishly decorate the venue and a catalogue of high calibre guests arrived on tap.
Weddings are notoriously a worry for the bride and groom, but with one on this scale and with such high-profile guests, did Wayne and Coleen think of all the potential mishaps?
Elizabeth Seeger, Contingency Underwriter for Lloyd’s insurer Hiscox, said: “With larger high profile weddings such as Wayne and Coleen’s, the insurance cover would be similar to that needed for any large event.
“At Hiscox, our standard wedding policy covers three main angles: cancellation; property damage; and public liability.
“Cancellation cover would obviously come into action if the wedding doesn’t go ahead. If the chosen venue burnt down, for example, a week before and the wedding had to be postponed, rescheduling a venue during the peak wedding season would be very difficult indeed. The cancellation policy would pay the additional costs that would be incurred due to the rescheduling.
“Also if the bride or groom or any immediate family members, including the best man, became ill or injured shortly before the wedding then rescheduling costs may also be covered.
“Property damage insurance would cover any damage to the wedding dress, if someone spilt something on it or if the wedding gifts were stolen or damaged at the venue. This could also include valuable family heirlooms, like a piece of jewellery passed down through generations and worn by the bride.
“Public Liability insurance would respond if someone had an accident and the organiser was negligent and found liable.
“The main exclusion to this policy would be if the bride or groom failed to turn up.”
Thankfully for the now Mr and Mrs Rooney this was not the case!
