On 24 October, Lloyd’s honoured three US brokers for their outstanding service to the Lloyd’s market. Alexandra Glickman and Charlotte Stone of Arthur J. Gallagher received the Lloyd’s US Surplus Lines Broker of the Year award and Peter Hearn of Willis was named Lloyd’s Reinsurance Broker of the Year.

Lloyd’s Chairman Lord Levene was joined by Sue Langley, Director of Market Operations and North America, and Wendy Baker, President of Lloyd’s America, to present the awards at the fifth annual Lloyd’s US Broker Awards ceremony in London. The reception was attended by over 50 underwriters, brokers and invited guests from the London and US markets.

The Lloyd’s US Broker Awards were designed in 2003 to recognise exceptional skills and expertise in working with the Lloyd’s market to deliver superior insurance solutions for clients. This year’s winners were chosen for their achievements within the US industry and for their outstanding contribution to the Lloyd’s market.

Lord Levene said: “I would like to congratulate the winners and thank them for their contribution to the Lloyd’s market during their careers. US brokers play a crucial role in helping customers to meet their risk needs and we appreciate their dedication to working with Lloyd’s.” He said he was impressed by the wealth of experience of the winners this year.

Wendy Baker also commended the winners. She commented on the importance of US brokers to Lloyd’s business in the US. She said: “The US is Lloyd’s largest market and Lloyd’s is committed to serving US clients. This year's winners are examples of the vital role brokers play in developing Lloyd’s business in the US. The strong relationships they have developed in the US market are central to the success of our business.”

Alexandra Glickman is Area Vice Chairman and Managing Director-Practice Leader of Gallagher Real Estate and Hospitality Services. She has more than 25 years of experience in the commercial insurance arena, and has pioneered numerous real estate insurance products and services.

"Lloyd's is truly one of the greatest institutions in the world. This recognition is a tremendous honour, and the fact that is bestowed by friends and professionals whom I have known for nearly a quarter of a century, makes it even more wonderful,” said Glickman. “I was taught many years ago to honour and respect Lloyd's, and I know that our clients have benefited mightily from that relationship. My sincere goal is to support this market for the rest of my career," she added.

As Area Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Worldwide Property Practice Group at Gallagher Real Estate & Hospitality Services, Charlotte Stone has extensive experience in structuring, negotiating, and placing property insurance programmes. In her role, she manages a number of national accounts with major catastrophic exposures.

Commenting on the award, Stone said: "Being awarded by the most prestigious insurance organization in the world is truly an honour and a highlight of my career. I have enjoyed many years of doing business in the Lloyd's market and believe that we share the same philosophy of relationship, stability and continuity. Our clients have developed longstanding relationships with Lloyd's and have valued the support received over the years. I look forward to many more years of supporting the Lloyd's market."

Peter Hearn, Chief Executive Officer of Willis Re, said: "I am honoured to accept this recognition on behalf of all my colleagues in the US. The success Willis Re has enjoyed in the US is a direct result of a very talented team of people who I am extremely proud to be associated with. The training I received in the Lloyd's market coupled with the close relationships I established have proved to be invaluable to my business career and for which I am most grateful."

Hearn joined Willis in January 1994 to open and manage the Philadelphia office. He went on to take responsibility for new business production efforts for global, national and regional property and casualty business, before being promoted to President in 2002, CEO of Willis Re Inc. in 2004, and CEO of Willis Re in 2006.
