Lloyd’s Paris office celebrated 60 years in the French capital on Tuesday with an anniversary dinner at the Louvre Museum hosted by Lloyd’s Chairman Lord Levene.
The office has become a fulcrum for French clients, brokers and the Lloyd’s market to transact business in what last year was Lloyd’s biggest market in continental Europe.
The office, which is situated close to the former French Bourse, employs five dedicated staff and is headed by General Manager for France, Anne-Gaelle Leillard.
She said: “The office acts as a two way channel allowing communication and access for clients and brokers in France and also for the managing agents in what is a very important market for Lloyd’s. The office also deals with issues such as regulation, coverholders and further developing Lloyd’s business in France.”
Leillard added: “France is the fourth biggest territory in term of premiums generated for the Lloyd’s market. The business is split evenly between the insurance and reinsurance markets and we give clients access to the whole range of coverage available in the Lloyd’s market.”
The celebration is to be held in the world famous Louvre, under its unique glass pyramid, and guests will be treated to a private tour of the museum before sitting down for a celebratory dinner.
Leillard said: “We have four Lloyd’s underwriters, Hiscox, Liberty, Beazley with operations in Paris and Catlin, has formally opened its office this week.
Catlin spokesman Jim Burke said the growing importance of the market was part of the rationale for the opening of their office.
“We see Europe as a very important market for the company,” he said. “What it gives us is the ability to work closely with retail brokers and clients in France and on the whole access to business that may not make its way to London via the wholesale brokers.”
