Since February 2007, Prof. Dr Flamée has been the Chairman of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors after serving as Vice Chairman since 2004. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Belgian Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission (CBFA) after having realised the merger between the Insurance Supervisory Authority and the Belgian Banks and Financial Markets Supervisor. Prof. Dr Flamée has also held a number of senior positions within CEIOPs.
From 1976 to 1997 Prof. Dr Flamée was a practicing lawyer at the Brussels’ Bar. During his career he has been for many years a member of the Belgian Competition Council and acted for two years as President of a Chamber of the Brussels Court of Appeal and as Commissioner for the Media for the Flemish region. He stayed active as an arbitrator for the Belgian Centre for Mediation and Arbitration (CEPINA), as well as for the International Chamber of Commerce.
Prof. Dr Flamée has been a Professor at the Economic and Financial Law Centre of the Free University of Brussels since 1989. Since 1987, he has regularly complemented and updated a prominent Belgian reference work in economic law (in collaboration with P. De Vroede: Handboek Belgisch Economisch Recht [Dutch-language edition], and Précis de droit économique belge [French-language edition]). He was Vice-Dean of the law faculty of the Free University of Brussels from 1997-1999.
