Sweepstakes/ Lottery scams

6 March 2008

Lloyd's is aware that members of the public may receive telephone calls telling them they have won a sweepstakes/lottery prize and that in order to collect the prize they must first pay a premium, often by wire transfer, for alleged Lloyd's insurance on the delivery of the prize. Anyone receiving such a call should not send any payments.

If a US resident, they should report the matter to the Federal Trade Commission via their toll-free telephone number (1-877-FTC-HELP) or via the following link to the Federal Trade Commission's website www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm. Should they wish to do so, US residents may also contact Lloyd's America, Inc. on 212-382-4092 and ask for Wayne Wertzer.

If a UK resident or elsewhere, they should report the matter to their local police force or contact Lloyd's, London office at the following email address: regulatoryrisk@lloyds.com.
