After studying law at Cambridge University, where he was President of the Footlights revue group, Clive Anderson practised as a barrister in London for 15 years.
At the same time he was writing scripts for Frankie Howard, Griff Rhys Jones, Mel Smith and others. He also performed as a stand-up comedian, which led to presenting radio and television programmes, in particular Whose Line Is It Anyway ? on BBC Radio 4 and then on Channel 4 TV. Also on Channel 4 he presented ten series of his chat show Clive Anderson Talks Back , picking up British Comedy Awards in 1991 and 1992, before moving on to BBC1 with Clive Anderson All Talk .
He has interviewed many leading politicians, film stars, actors, musicians and writers. In addition Clive has presented a variety of other programmes including The Big Read for the BBC and most recently The Guardian Sports Quiz for Channel 4.
