Amanda Steven’s working career commenced in the National Health Service as a manager first in a central London teaching hospital and then in a district general hospital, during which time she handled clinical negligence matters and health and safety issues. She then went on to qualify as a member of the Institute of Health Services Management.
She qualified as a solicitor in September 1990 and has risen through the ranks at Charles Russell to become a partner and head of the personal injury group. She handles a full range of personal injury work from slip and trip claims through to occupational disease, catastrophic injury and international product liability matters as well as some clinical negligence.
She is a regular contributor to professional journals and the local press. In 2003 she was elected to the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) executive committee where she maintains a particular interest in health and safety matters. More recently, she has been appointed as APIL’s “rehab champion” charged with developing APIL’s rehab policy and promotion of rehab as a central part of the claims process in consultation with other key stakeholder groups. She is the executive committee liaison officer for both the product liability and international special interest groups and regularly attends the South of England regional group. Amanda became APIL president on 10 April 2008.
