Lloyd's continues its support of the London Climate Change Partnership

Support Government action, including regulation, that will enhance the resilience and reduce the environmental impact of infrastructure and communities.

Lloyd's continued to support the London Climate Change Partnership (LCCP) during 2008 and in 2009.

For example, on 23 April 2009 the Finance Group of the partnership, chaired by Trevor Maynard, Manager of Emerging Risks at Lloyd's, hosted an event at City Hall.

The event opened with a welcome from Gerry Acher the chairman of the LCCP.  Isabel Dedring the Director of Environmental Policy for the GLA shared her thoughts followed by Miles Keeping the chairman of the Investment Property Forum.

The event brought together a multidisciplinary panel of speakers including:

  • Alex Nickson the Climate Change Strategy Manager at the GLA who spoke about the London Plan
  • Gary Rawlings (Make Architects) and Polly Turton (Arup) spoke about how properties of various ages will cope with increasing heat stress and other climate change impacts
  • Philip Parnell (Drivers Jonas) gave the perspective of a property valuation company and posed the question of whether maladapted buildings will see a discount to their value in future
  • Chris Bray (Barclays) discussed the impacts of climate change from a lenders point of view
  • Tim Baines (Dewey & LeBoeuf) and Siobhan Cross (Pinsent Masons) considered the legal implications of climate change

This successful event illustrates the strength of the LCCP in bringing together this group of key stakeholders.
