All eyes in the city looked up on Monday this week whilst HRH the Duke of York abseiled down London’s tallest the building, the Shard. Taking part in a fundraising event for The Outward Bound Trust and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, the Duke of York was accompanied by Amlin’s CEO Charles Philipps and 39 other fundraisers.
Philipps, a trustee of the Outward Bound Trust pledged to raise a minimum of £100k for the cause. The Duke of York succeeded his father, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, as Chairman of Trustees to The Outward Bound Trust in 1999 and has since then devoted much time to the organisation.
The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund is run by Royal Marines for Royal Marines. It benefits serving and retired Royal Marines and their dependants by; helping the wounded, injured and their relatives in any way it can; helping those still serving in a variety of ways such as funding homecoming events for those returning from operations and by providing immediate grants to the next of kin of those who die in service.
