Claims Practioners: one week to apply

Lucy Cooper

Applications for the Lloyd’s Claims Practitioners Programme close on Tuesday 14th August.

This specialist training is designed specifically for the Lloyd’s Market and is open to professionals who have between five and ten years’ experience.

The future of Claims at Lloyd’s depends on the quality of its managers and leaders. This year-long course both increases their understanding of strategic and technical aspects of claims management and develops their professional and personal skills.

Lucy Cooper, a Claims Examiner at Atrium with eight years in the insurance industry, was one of six market practitioners accepted onto the first Claims Practioners Programme which ended this July:

"The course was extensive, not only with practical knowledge and behavioral skills but also the networking aspect, which developed some relationships for me that will continue throughout my career. Since then, I have been involved in developing the Atrium Claims Business plan, working with the Head of Claims to submit the required data to Lloyd’s for Lloyd’s Claim Metrics. I got these opportunities due to the awareness I gained through the Claims Practioners Programme.”

Lucy says that the course has also helped develop her behavioral skills through sessions on influencing and persuading, communication and change management. It has also improved her presentations skills. She says the benefits for Claims employees and employers are clear:

“I probably would not have had the opportunity to be part of these sessions internally at Atrium at this stage in my career. I would strongly encourage all Head of Claims and Claims Managers to seriously consider someone in your claims team to apply for the course. I feel having someone from your team on the next intake of the Claims Practioners Programme will only strengthen your claims department and help encourage and build that person’s career and talent for claims."

“Claims must be a vital part of the Insurance market future and this programme is a key step in achieving future success for the claims arena.”

Nick Sinfield, CEO of Catlin and a member of the steering group for the Claims Practitioner Programme said: “I have seen the development of my own staff through the programme, and this long-term commitment is key to the goal of sustaining Lloyd’s as the global centre for specialist insurance and reinsurance business."

With only one week to go until the deadline now is the time for experienced Claims professionals at Lloyd’s to take the next step in their career development. To get the opportunity of dedicated year-long training apply now for the Claims Practioners Programme.
