Lloyd’s has been authorised in Spain to transact business on a freedom of services basis since 1993 and on an establishment basis since 1st August 2001. In 2004 Lloyd’s opened a permanent office in Madrid.
The Spanish insurance market is the world’s ninth and Europe’s sixth largest non-life insurance market in terms of gross direct premiums. However, Spain is Lloyd’s 16th largest insurance market globally and 9th largest in Europe, generating almost €193 million in premiums in 2008. This makes Spain a significant and strategic market for Lloyd’s.
All direct business as well as reinsurance risks can be written from the Lloyd’s platform, which is well positioned to take advantage of the development and trends in the Spanish insurance market.
Lloyd’s is member of the main professional associations, as UNESPA, AGERS, ICEA, International Insurers Club and participates actively with the Consejo General de Mediadores (Spanish Intermediaries Association), local professional associations and other associations as ADECOSE, E2000, FECOR or APROMES.
Lloyd’s Iberia is the representative office of Lloyd's in Spain.
