Lloyd's in Singapore

Lloyd’s Asia is located in Singapore and was established in 1999 to give Lloyd’s an underwriting base in Asia. Lloyd’s license in Singapore enables Lloyd’s syndicates to write both local and offshore business from Singapore through the establishment of local service companies.

In the past three years, the Lloyd’s Asia market has grown exponentially. Firstly, the number of service companies operating within the Lloyd’s Asia trading centre has grown from three businesses in 2005, to 15 as at October 2008. A listing of the organisations that operate on the Lloyd’s Asia trading platform is shown below.

Lloyd’s Asia’s growth is illustrated in the substantial increase in gross premiums written by the market. In 2005, the aggregate gross premium written by Service Companies was US $46m. By 2007, that figure had grown to US $126m. Lloyd’s Asia is well on its way to developing a leading presence in the region.

There are no regulatory restrictions on Lloyd’s Asia underwriters over whom they can do business with. Lloyd’s Asia underwriters may deal directly with clients, brokers and agents (local and foreign).
