Enrico Bertagna was born in Brescia (Italy) in 1966 and began his professional training in architecture. He later moved on to the insurance field and, while earning valuable on-the-job experience, he pursued an MBA and attended several other management training programmes both in Italy and the UK.
Enrico began his insurance career as a business consultant in a plurimandatory insurance agency which he left in 1987, when he was appointed Area Manager of the INA Assitalia group. After which, he spent a period in London working for the Lloyd’s broker Richards, Longstaff Insurance Ltd as its consultant on Italy related matters.
He joined the Lloyd’s Italian Office in 1990 where he dealt with underwriting issues and developed commercial relationships with Lloyd’s business partners. He was later promoted Senior Manager, Operations & Development in 1998. During this period he was appointed Insurance Advisor by the Rome Court and joined the board of directors of Saturno, an agricultural risks consortium.
In 1999 he became the Lloyd’s General Representative for Italy. In this position he re-structured the Lloyd’s operating platform in Italy by adopting a User Pays scheme and led the development of Mocha, a web-based IT system for the processing of Binding Authority business. Since Enrico took over this role, Italy has become one of the fastest growing markets for Lloyd’s in Europe.
In 2002, in addition to being the Country Manager for Italy, he was appointed to the position of Senior Manager, European Development. As such, Enrico became responsible for co-ordinating all business development activities of the Lloyd’s European offices, exploring potential new markets and for managing the strategic relationships with BIPAR and FERMA.
Enrico worked as a member of the Lloyd’s Environment Brand Implication Group and as a member of the Lloyd’s Binder Development Group.
In 2007, as a consequence of Lloyd’s adopting a regional structure, Enrico was promoted to Regional Manager, Europe. He continues as the Country Manager for Italy and is now responsible for the operations of Lloyd’s offices in Europe.
Enrico is also a member of the Lloyd’s Management Team.

Services overview
The main function of Lloyd's General Representative office is to give support to Lloyd's underwriters in Italy:
- ensuring that all requirements are met in order to maintain their authorisation to carry on the activity in Italy.
- protecting Lloyd's image and reputation.
The office does not deal with underwriting activity which is centralised in London. The task of the Italian office is to facilitate contacts between Lloyd's brokers and correspondents for the benefit of business development in Italy.

This Division includes the marketing department as well as the correspondent department with the task of maintaining and developing relationships with the Lloyd's distribution network in Italy. The Division also keeps relations with the media and the insurance intermediary associations, in addition to this it deals with the communication, promotion and safeguarding of the Lloyd’s brand.

Regulatory & Compliance
The Regulatory & Compliance Division is directly involved in the monitoring of litigations on extra judicial basis and before Court.
The Unit handles legal writs served onto the Italian Office ensuring that both Underwriters’ and Franchise rights are always safeguarded with no conflict of interest amongst the parties.
The Division also takes care of complaints and responds to any query from the Italian Regulator regarding claims. It maintains strict communication with loss adjusters and attorneys acting on behalf of Underwriters, serving as a point of reference for all parties within the Lloyd’s organisation. Sets procedures and monitors compliance in accordance to the Italian Law and regulations.

IT Resources
The Information Resources Division leads the development of the web-based platform Mocha – the management of Coverholders' Authorities - throughout various European countries and provides assistance to more than 200 users. The IT division supports the local day to day operations dealing with Desktop solutions, Network services and Information management.

Financial Control
As well as maintaining records relating to Lloyd's Italian insurance, the Financial Control department deals with the payment of premium taxes to fiscal authorities and the remittance of premiums received from correspondents to the relevant beneficiaries in London.
