Under the Agreement between Lloyd's and the Government of Israel, Lloyd's non-marine underwriters must keep a local representative for purposes of accepting service of suit on behalf of underwriters in those branches covered under the Agreement (non-marine and aviation direct insurance covers) and to act as liaison between Lloyd's and the Government of Israel. The office of the local representative is not involved in underwriting or placing insurance, which is handled by coverholders or Lloyd's brokers.
In addition the Lloyd's representative performs the following duties:
- Is available to assist underwriters and brokers who require information and legal advice with respect to transacting business in Israel.
- Serves as the first point of entry to underwriters and brokers wishing to handle Lloyd's business in Israel.
- Has the authority to protect the Lloyd's brand name and other intellectual property rights of Lloyd's.
- Is available to handle complaints from insureds, coverholders and others with respect to Lloyd's.
New coverholder applications are handled by the representative together with the coverholders department of Lloyd's. The representative has authority to review conduct of the coverholders.
